Laboratory Technician

Job Summary

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing testing activities as assigned by the Laboratory Supervisor (LS) and Technical Manager (TM) in accordance with approved Test Procedures, Working Instructions and ISO/IEC 17025 requirements. The role involves operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring accurate test results, and supporting compliance with the Laboratory Quality Management System (LQMS). The Lab Technician is expected to maintain impartiality, confidentiality and good profession practice at all times, while actively participating in training and competency development programs to enhance technical proficiency and contribute to continuous improvement of laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities:

i. Responsible to perform testing assigned by LS and TM according to approved Test Procedure and Working Instruction.

ii. Abide to Laboratory’s rules and regulation on Impartiality and Confidentiality and in operation.

iii. Operate and maintain Test Equipment according to Equipment Manual, Equipment Procedure and Test Procedure.

iv. Participate in training and competency program arranged by Laboratory management.

v. Cooperate with Laboratory Supervisor and Technical Manager in the implementation of LQMS and ISO/IEC 17025.

vi. Assist in the implementation of internal and external audits.

vii. Adhere to good professional practice at all times.

viii. Assist the LS and Technical Manager in ensuring the testing equipment in the laboratory are properly, maintained, valid calibrations and fit for intended purposes.

ix. Comply to impartiality and confidentiality requirements as stipulated in the “Impartiality & Confidentiality Undertaking”.

x. The Laboratory Technician reports directly to the LS/TM

Experience
at least 1 year
Qualifications:

Minimum Diploma or Certificate or a related technical field.

Experience:
  • At least 1 year of working experience in a testing or calibration laboratory environment.

  • Familiarity with equipment operation, maintenance, and test procedures relevant to the laboratory’s scope.

  • Basic understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 and Laboratory Quality Management System (LQMS) requirements is an advantage.

  • Fresh graduates with strong technical aptitude and willingness to learn maybe considered from trainee positions.

  • Ability to perform testing according to standard methods and working instructions.

  • Basic knowledge of QA/QC practices, data recording and reporting accuracy.

  • Capable of following equipment manuals, safety procedures, and handling calibration/test instruments.

  • Able to identify and report equipment malfunction or nonconformity to the Laboratory Supervisor.
