

Laboratory Supervisor

Job Summary
The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for managing the daily laboratory operations to ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, SAMM, and the Laboratory Quality Management System (LQMS) requirements. This role oversees testing personnel, maintains the accuracy and integrity of testing and calibration activities, ensures the reliability of laboratory equipment, and supports continuous improvement in technical competence and quality assurance. The Lab Supervisor works closely with the Technical Manager (TM) to implement quality, technical, and training programs, ensuring impartiality, confidentiality, and adherence to good professional practices in all laboratory activities.
Key Responsibilities:
i. Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Laboratory to comply to the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025, SAMM’s & LQMS.
ii. Operate and maintain Test Equipment according to the Equipment Manual, Equipment Procedure and Test Procedure.
iii. Supervise and monitor testing personnel to ensure compliance to Test Procedures, impartiality and confidentiality requirements and Laboratory’s rules and regulations.
iv. Cooperate with TM in managing, implementing, and monitoring the requirements of LQMS and ISO/IEC 17025.
v. Cooperate with TM to implement competency programs for the laboratory measurement system and personnel.
vi. Drive the testers to participate in Laboratory activities in supporting compliance to quality, management, and technical requirements of accreditation ISO/IEC 17025.
vii. Assist TM in formulating and implementation training and competency program for technical staff in the Laboratory.
viii. Assist in the implementation of internal and external audit and Management Review.
ix. Assist in ensuring all laboratory personnel adhere to quality conduct and good professional practices at all times.
x. Assist the TM in ensuring the testing equipment in the in the laboratory are properly maintained, valid calibrations and fit for intended purposes.
xi. To implement the QA/QC programs in the laboratory including PT/ILC.
xii. Comply to impartiality and confidentiality requirements as stipulated in the “Impartiality & Confidentiality Undertaking”.
xiii. Check the calibration/Test Worksheet and Analysis Worksheet to ensure accurate data being transfer to Calibration Certificate/Test Report.
xiv. Check the Measurement Uncertainty sources and calculation to ensure there are appropriate and correctly reported in the Calibration Certificate/Test Report.
xv. Check the contents of Calibration Certification/ Test Report to comply to clauses 7.8.2 & 7.8.3 / 7.8.4 respectively of ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
xvi. Sign to approve the Calibration Certification/ Test Report.
xvii. Perform method verification/validation and method development (if any)
xviii. Verify the decision rules used for making judgement to the results.
xix. Responsible for any dispute on results validity and reporting.
xx. The Laboratory Supervisor report directly to the Technical Manager (TM).
Qualifications:
Diploma / Degree holders with extensive relevant laboratory experience may also be considered

Minimum 3 years working experience in a testing or calibration laboratory environment.
Hands-on experience in equipment operation, maintenance, and test/calibration methods relevant to the laboratory’s scope.
Familiar with ISO/IEC 17025, SAMM and Laboratory Quality Management System (LQMS) requirements
Experience in internal auditing, method verification/validation and measurement uncertainty evaluation is an advantage.
Proficient in test methods, measurement techniques and data analysis.
Knowledge of QA/QC program, PT/ILC participation and traceability requirements
Ability to identify and manage nonconformities, corrective actions and risk assessments.
Competent to act as Approved Signatory.
